What media institution might distribute my product and why?
|
I have done a research on media institutions that distribute
music magazine. I have found that probably the largest one is IPC, Bauer Media
Group and Empa. I would like Bauer Media group to distribute my magazine. Bauer
is a German media institution distributing magazine is 15 countries worldwide. Their
knowledge and experience gained from 1875 is very valuable. I can support this
idea with a fact that they sell around 38 million magazines weekly. I have
chosen this media institution because they also publish magazines like Q or
Kerrang. I see those two as very successful and what’s more important is that
they are same genre as my product. This shows that Bauer media institution know
how to promote and distribute magazines. Also this institution is known
worldwide, this will gain audience trust. This institution will also invest much money
in my magazine. This is because they have a big budget. My product will also be associated with those two
popular magazines, Q and Kerrang.
Audience
My music magazine is clearly Rock genre. When creating my music magazine I looked at the popular rock songs, watch the music videos and research typical rock makeup or outfit. I have done all of this in order to plan my photoshoot for the magazine. For example the image on my front cover, the girl in the picture has army jacket which links to the rock music genre. She also has a strong makeup and red hair, all of this link to rock music. Those rock elements create perfect image of rock music fan, the audience may see the similarities between the person in the image and themselves.
This is NBME music magazine reader’s profile. I have based my audience on the information in this reader profile. Why NME? Simply because it is very similar to my genre, it is rock genre. I have also done my own reader profile based on only couple of my friends opinion, my reader profile wasn’t so detailed as NME one. Reader profile gives many information about my audience, looking at this we can get information on rock fans as it is a rock magazine. For example 95% has access to the internet and 38% has a mobile phone with building camera. This information gave me an idea to place QR code on my front cover. This allows 38% of my audience to access my website. Overall, from the reader profile I know that the audience that I aim at like technology so I have to make my magazine suitable for their needs.
What have I learned?
The best way to represent what I have learned when creating my music magazine would be comparing it to my preliminary task that I have done at the beginning of the year. This magazine is not very conventional . Now I have noticed straight away that the rule of 3 colours have not been applied and the layout is spread around the whole front cover. In my college magazine I have used 7 different colours where on my music magazine front cover there is only 4 colours and the 4th one is just the price font. Secondly there is a big difference in the image. College magazine image is not edited in any way, it was placed on front cover showing details that are not needed. This has a big influence on the magazine as the text is not very visible. On my music magazine front cover the image has been edited using Photoshop, not needed background has been erased so I could set the red colour so the text is visible. Another thing I noticed is the huge bar code with a date on, this is not conventional and has no purpose in this magazine. On my music magazine the bar code is in suitable size, also I included QR code and the date is on top of, not covering the bar code. This is far more conventional and detailed that on my college magazine. Another element of conventions I have learned is the framing of the image. I have used mid shoot for my music magazine, it is conventional and effective. On the beginning of the course I clearly didn’t know this as the college magazine does not have any specific framing. Last but not least, I have 5 different fonts on my college magazine, once again it gives effect of magazine not being organized also the layout of the pull quotes supports this idea. On my music magazine all the pull quotes are in the same font and in one straight column. They are kept in two different colours to separate them and not look like a boring column of text. In conclusion all I have learn the conventions of the magazine, how should it look like and that the details are important.
